Will you be Mrs croak??...this was the question asked by my friend when he came to me with a proposal of a scientist working in reputed IISc. I was perplexed initially but after few talks with the scientist, made up my mind of becoming Mrs croak happily though I am extremely scared of frogs and all other creatures! Frogs......the creatures who we generally see in monsoon hopping and jumping and scaring people like me or in science classes studying its morphology or other times experimenting on it. Never did I expect that I will marry a guy who loves the dusky creatures and never did I dream that one day even I will start liking these croakers. Little did I know that there is a amazing world of amphibians out there, totally new and wonderful world. A trip to Dandeli's forest with my husband helped me to come out of my ignorance. Dandeli, a town near to Dharwad, Karnataka is a beauty in itself and to add to it these beautiful and cute looking frogs (from a distance I saw.....I was too courageous to go near it!)...They appeared to me like a jewels in crown!

What mesmerizes me is the riot of colours of these frogs (from normal bottle green colour to the sand colour....you can find them in all types). What more fascinating is the calls they give to attract females for mating. This is really unbelievable. In my native place I often used to listen to their calls at night, not knowing that these were the calls of the frogs and therefore was always afraid to venture out thinking that those sounds were something else. But Dandeli was a sort of eyeopener to me.
The world of amphibians(frogs) is really amazing and science of these croakers even more astonishing. These tiny little cuties surely know how to turn others eyes on and cameras too!
